Maternal & Child Health Nurse

The Maternal and Child Health Service (M&CH) is a family centred health service enhancing the quality of life for children aged 0 – 6 and their families, free of charge.

A M&CH Nurse from the Shire of Southern Grampians, visits the Balmoral Bush Nursing Centre on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, offering half hour appointments from 9.30 to 11.30am.

Parents are encouraged to attend the service at key ages in their child’s development. Maternal and Child Health Nurses provide ongoing support through the First Time Mothers Group.

These forums inform parents about:

  • Breastfeeding
  • Nutrition
  • Child safety
  • Dental issues
  • Immunisation
  • Language development
  • Growth stages

It is an excellent way to meet other new parents and learn about parenting.

A lactation consultant is available to provide professional advice and support on breastfeeding in addition to Maternal and Child Health Nurses.

All nurses are approved accredited immunisers in accordance with the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Regulations 1995.
